Paul Shepard

Paul Shepard joined GMMB as vice president in March 2006, bringing a strong writing background and 20 years of experience in national journalism and nonprofit communications fields.

Since joining GMMB, Paul has crafted inspiring stories for the Association of American Medical Colleges’ new Web site, Aspiringdocs.org, to attract more minorities to fields in medicine. He has also provided strategic communications counsel to clients including the Public Education Network and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Prior to joining GMMB, Paul was communications director for the Milton S. Eisenhower Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit specializing in reducing poverty and prison recidivism.

A New York City native, Paul began his professional career as a journalist at The Central Jersey Home News after graduating from Rutgers University.  He became a national writer covering race relations for The Plain Dealer (Cleveland), Ohio’s largest newspaper.  Paul has written award-winning stories on the national spread of violent youth street gangs from Los Angeles and Chicago, the Rodney King trial in Los Angeles, and the election of Nelson Mandela as South African president.

Later, Paul worked as a national writer covering race and politics for the Associated Press. His featured story packages at the AP included coverage of global trafficking of women, unsafe working conditions for Latino immigrants, and profiles ranging from former First Lady Hilary Clinton to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
