| J. Toscano
J. Toscano is a partner at GMMB, conducting his communications work at the intersection of policy, issues and politics. He joined the firm in 1997.
J. brings together broadcast advertising, viral media, and traditional and guerilla public relations skills to create integrated campaigns that change minds and behaviors. He leads GMMB's policy communications work for the American Academy of Family Physicians, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Credit Union National Association and the Mott Foundation. He co-manages advertising for the Save Darfur Coalition and was one of the original architects of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's multifaceted efforts on the issue of the uninsured.
J. deepened his political skills as a media consultant for Governor Jim Doyle's (D-Wis.) tough re-election fight, U.S. Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.), U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), Americans United for Change and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. His special talents lie in developing sharp message strategies and creating spots that often tiptoe out of traditional political bounds to engage increasingly cynical audiences. He also has a knack for helping candidates find their true voices, turning words and ideas into signature speeches.
Previously, J. was a Clinton administration political appointee, serving as public affairs director for the president's signature national service program AmeriCorps. He led a team of public relations and marketing professionals that saved the program during fierce political battles in Washington while establishing its brand favorably nationwide. Prior to that, he worked in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving as Democratic Caucus communications director under current Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.).
J. has been the recipient of numerous awards, including several Pollies and Tellys, the David Ogilvy Award, the Bronze Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America, and the Creativity in Public Relations Award. |
